Port Blair


Port Blair, the capital city of the Andamans, is a non-stop hub of activity for visitors.  From the air, travelers can see the harbor, islands, and colorful roofs spread out below. On the ground, there are many interesting attractions located within walking distance of central Port Blair near the jetties. Other places to visit are just a short taxi or scooter ride away.

There are a wide variety of hotels and resorts with on-site restaurant/bars in Port Blair that offer visitors a comfortable stay.  Government houses and homestays usually include breakfasts and offer other meals upon request. Many accommodations are near the airport, but others are located at the harbor or along the coastline, with island and ocean views.  Dining out around Port Blair covers many cuisines – from regional Indian to pizza and spaghetti to coffee at Brewberrys.


Airline passengers arrive from Indian cities (Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi and Bhubaneswar) on non-stop flights to Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ).  India is the only country that the Andamans can be accessed from at this time. Visas and permits are needed for foreign visitors and can be arranged at the airport upon arrival.


Private car with guide, taxi, tuk-tuk, scooter, bus and bicycle rentals are available throughout Port Blair for sightseeing and transportation.  Getting to neighboring islands is easy to arrange, with ferry services available at jetties and docks.
